Transformed Historic Laboratory Earns Top Award

The reimagined Demerec Laboratory received a Modernism in America Award from Docomomo US according to Centerbrook Architects and Planners.

The laboratory, located at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, features the restoration and extension of once obscured defining character elements from its original 1953 structure.

In addition, Centerbrook also completed the design and installation of state-of-the-art laboratory building systems, in the eleven-foot floor-to-floor structure for molecular biology and chemistry research.

The Modernism in America Awards is a celebration of projects that reflect modern preservation, advocacy, and documentation.

The laboratory was one of seven in the Award of Excellence category.
