DNA Lab To Help Solve Sexual Assault Cases

A North Carolina medical center launched a private forensic DNA lab to assist in solving sexual assault cases.

StarMed Healthcare will be processing sexual assault kits following its May accreditation.

StarMed ’s Chief Medical Officer, Arin Piramzadia, said to WSOC-TV that processing the samples may provide insight into the potential case, and determine if someone is innocent or the possible defendant.

Piramzadia also said the lab could conduct up to 4,000 tests per year.

The new lab means that the backlog of sexual assault kits will be processed quicker, and eliminate wait times for closure and evidence.
