The Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery building at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has received the Innovation in Green Building Award. The honor is given by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizing a college or university that is transforming its built environment with an eye toward sustainability and promoting institutional change. The WID building houses a public-private partnership and was also the recipient of the 2012 Laboratory of the Year award from R&D Magazine. Its sustainable features include geothermal heating, solar-powered water heating, and an extensive use of efficient lighting technology and daylighting.
