  • AECOM, Los Angeles, parent company of Chicago-based design/build firm Austin AECOM, has raised $233 million in its initial public offering, held in May. The employee-stock sell-off will provide revenue for future acquisitions, according to AECOM execs. Employee participation in the sale was voluntary; more than half the stock remains in the hands of employees. (Previously, 75% of the company stock had been held by employees.)

  • RMJM, an international A/E firm headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, has merged with Princeton, N.J.-based Hillier. The combined entity will offer services in architecture, interior design, master planning, urban design, historic preservation, arts consulting, land planning, landscape design, graphics, and computer visualization. The North American offices (Princeton, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.) will be branded as RMJM Hillier.

  • Affiliated Engineers Inc. has appointed Paul Petska as principal of the firm’s recently opened Chicago office (300 S. Wacker Drive, Suite 510, Chicago, IL 60606, 312-212-6400). In addition, AEI has named Michael Broge, PE, LEED AP, and Kenneth Meschke, PE, as principals and shareholders of the firm. Both work in the company’s Science + Technology practice and are based in the Madison, Wis., office. Affiliated specializes in the design of MEP and information technology systems for large-scale and technically complex facilities.

  • William LeMessurier, founding principal of LeMessurier Consultants, Cambridge, Mass., died June 21 at age 81, while recovering from hip surgery after a fall. LeMessurier’s structural engineering firm serves a diverse group of clients, with a strong market presence in the science/ research facility market. Major current projects include the French Family Science Center at Duke Univ., Durham, N.C., and the ACC/Clinical Research Building for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

  • Health, Education + Research Associates (HERA), a lab planning consulting firm, has hired Jennifer Browne, AIA, LEED AP, as an associate and senior laboratory architect in its Philadelphia office. Clay Stafford has joined the firm as a senior lab programmer and provides a new presence for HERA in Atlanta.

  • Angela H. Cremeans, PE, LEED AP, has joined RTKL Associates Inc. as a principal in the engineering group, based in the firm’s Baltimore, Md., office. Cremeans has more than 25 years of experience in mechanical engineering for building systems, including award-winning practice in energy-efficient design for higher education and other institutional facilities.

  • SEi Cos., Boston, has announced that Paul Corrado, PE, LEED AP, has been named a principal of the firm. Mark Warren, LEED AP, has been named associate principal and Anastasia Vassos, senior associate. SEi is an engineering firm specializing in planning, study, design, and construction services of MEP, fire protection, and communication technology systems for varied markets, including science and technology.

  • Suffolk Construction, West Palm Beach, Fla., has been named Business of the Year in South Florida by the South Florida Business Journal, for construction and engineering firms with revenues exceeding $25 million. Suffolk, whose current science projects include the Torrey Pines Research Institute expansion, was recognized for its revenue growth, job creation, commitment to employees, and community involvement.

  • Shimadzu Corp., Kyoto, Japan, has named Takeshi Kawami president of its American subsidiary, Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Columbia, Md. Kawami will oversee SSI’s overall sales and management functions. SSI provides lab equipment for firms in North, Central, and parts of South America. In addition, SSI has opened a new regional office in Carlsbad, Calif., providing more direct sales, technical, and service support for Southern California, Southern Nevada, and Hawaii.
