Campus project designed to inspire ground-breaking science

The Project: Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Janelia Farm Research Campus, Ashburn, Va. Multiple-building campus including 610,000-ft2 “landscape building” (research lab); 80,000-ft2#, 96-room conference housing building; and 53 apartment housing units totaling 75,000-ft2 on rural 281-acre site.

Two-lab project reflects client’s unique site, mission

The Project: Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), Biogeochemistry Research Building/Stanley W. Watson Laboratory (BGC) and the Marine Research Facility (MRF), Woods Hole, Mass. Three facilities designed as an ensemble project, encompassing the two-story BGC facility (35,600 ft2); two-story MRF (31,600 ft2); and a central energy plant expansion (7,700 ft2).

Collaborative venture produces versatile open laboratory

The Project: The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard (Seven Cambridge Center), Cambridge, Mass. Seven-story research building encompassing 230,000 ft2 of space plus mechanical penthouse. Budget information withheld.

Lab honored for accommodating complex program, schedule

The Project: Univ. of Pittsburgh, Biomedical Sciences Tower III (BST3). Eleven-story research tower encompassing 330,000 ft2 of space in urban Pittsburgh (includes basement-level imaging core labs), plus high-bay mechanical penthouse. $188 million.
