  • Equipment Collaborative Inc., Houston, has promoted Kelly C. Spivey to senior associate. The firm specializes in equipment planning for healthcare and research laboratory facilities.

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., Palm Springs, Calif., has been honored with the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy award for its contribution to the European lab automation market. The award recognizes the vendor’s role as a complete solution provider in advanced lab automation, incuding the Thermo Scientific Dimension4 automation platform.

  • SmithGroup has announced that three of its staff members have been elevated to FAIA status. The honor is awarded to AIA members who have made significant contributions to architecture and society and have achieved a standard of excellence within the profession. The honorees are Harold E. Davis Jr., FAIA, managing director of SmithGroup’s Washington, D.C., office; William L. Diefenbach, FAIA, LEED AP, leader of the firm’s National Science and Technology Practice, who works in the San Francisco office; and Paul G. Johnson, FAIA, principal and member of the firm’s Building Technology Studio in the Detroit office. SmithGroup is an A/E firm focused on the healthcare, university, workplace, and science and technology markets.

  • Health, Education + Research Associates (HERA), St. Louis, has appointed two new principals: James Cartwright, AIA, and Barbara Spitz, AIA. Cartwright is based in the firm’s St. Louis office; Spitz leads projects from the Philadelphia office. HERA is a laboratory planning, programming, and design consulting firm.

  • Nalls Architecture, Narberth, Pa., has hired Priscilla T. Nalls, AICP, as director of planning. Previously Nalls was employed at the Waetzman Planning Group, Bryn Mawr, Pa. Nalls Architecture, with offices in the Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., metropolitan areas, provides architecture, interiors, planning, and programming services for higher education, science, and healthcare clients.

  • RNL Design, Denver, has hired Jennifer Toll as a senior project architect in its architecture studio. Toll was previously employed by AndersonMadisonDale Architects, and is currently working on the Univ. of Colorado’s JILA laboratory addition.

  • FKP Architects Inc., Houston/Dallas, has hired Thomas Tulipani as a project architect in the laboratory planning group. FKP provides design, planning, and consulting services to healthcare institutions, research facilities, and higher education campuses.

  • Esco Technologies Inc., Hatboro, Pa., has named Mike Martin general manager of U.S. operations, following the company’s move from Houston to Hatboro (suburban Philadelphia). Martin will manage the company’s U.S. sales, service, technical support, and distribution programs directed at the life science, pharma, biotech, clinical, and industrial lab sectors. Previously, Martin was GM of Lancer Sales USA Inc. Esco Technologies is a fully owned operating unit of Esco Micro Pte. Ltd., Singapore, a vendor of lab equipment, containment, and clean air equipment.

  • BSA LifeStructures, Indianapolis, has promoted the following to principal: Mike Castor, LEED AP; Kathy Clark; Doug Fick; and Dan Miles. BSA has promoted Kerry Dunn, AICP, to VP/finance. The firm provides architecture, engineering, and planning services to the healthcare, higher education, and research and technology markets.

  • JE Dunn Construction, Eden Prairie, Minn., added three new members to its leadership team: Tim Elness, business development manager; Dick La Fond, quality assurance manager; and Cal Van’t Land, senior project manager. JE Dunn, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., specializes in construction management, program management, general construction, and design/ build for multiple markets, including science and technology.

  • Mitchell/Giurgola Architects LLP, New York City, has named John Doherty, AIA, as a senior associate, and John Phillips, AIA, as an associate. The A/E firm’s recent science and technology projects include a renovation/addition for the science building at Keene State College, Keene, N.H., and a renovation/addition for the Boyd Hall science facility at Plymouth State Univ., Plymouth, N.H.
