Casework
and utility system designed for peak adaptability The
E-Lab product line, by Case Systems, is designed to provide unequalled
versatility for virtually all laboratory applications by combining
modular and fixed commercial-grade laminate casework with coordinating
hardware, trim, countertops, fixtures, and a wide variety of complementary
accessories.
Cabinet options include floor-mounted, suspended, mobile, and
overhead cabinets as well as many specialized storage solutions
such as high-density storage, hazardous chemical storage, and
hands-free waste disposal cabinets. A unique flexible hardware
system provides rigid support for vertical integration without
limiting adjustability. The vertical supports are slotted to allow
infinite height adjustment of overhead cabinets, electrical raceway,
services, and reagent shelves.
E-Lab’s service wing provides all services from overhead, leaving
the work surface completely free. When used with mobile instrument
carts and tables, instruments can be easily installed and connected
to the service supply as needed and simply moved out of the way
when finished.
Pass-through
hood allows user access from either side Labconco Corp.
offers the new benchtop Protector pass-through laboratory hoods,
which can be operated from either side. When mounted in an island
or peninsular configuration, the hoods’ unobstructed viewing from
either side make them well-suited for conducting chemistry demonstrations
or to observe students while using the hoods. An optional 15-
3 24-in., right-side-mounted, clear tempered safety glass viewing
window further enhances visibility. The hood can also be installed
in a wall between two rooms to permit safe transfer of chemicals
and experiments. For safety, an exclusive audible sash alarm sounds
when both sashes are opened at the same time.
The patented ergonomic air foil with aerodynamic Clean-Sweep airflow
openings sweep the worksurface for maximum containment. The chemical-resistant,
polyester-reinforced composite panel liner surpasses all national
codes for flame spread and has a bright white surface for excellent
light reflectivity. Pre-wired electrical components include incandescent
light, switches and a GFCI electrical duplex receptacle. All models
are bypass design and are of constructed glacier white, dry powder
epoxy-coated steel with an aluminum frame.
System
provides high-security monitoring features Rees Scientific’s
CentronSQL environmental monitoring system is designed to provide
the ultimate in high-security monitoring. CentronSQL allows the
use of either Oracle or Microsoft’s SQL Server as the database
engine. Centron nodes are shipped with Microsoft’s MSDE 2000 data
engine which is suitable for use as the main data engine for small
systems. Critical GxP audit trails and system program data are
kept in encrypted files.
In addition to stability, industry standard data formats, superior
multi-user operation and a dramatically improved system overview,
CentronSQL provides a vast array of analysis reports that can
be easily accessed from any workstation. Reports can be generated
based on time, date, activity, input, event type or multiple criteria.
Users can be notified of alarms via e-mails, which can be sent
to up to 50 simultaneous users and include the input number, name,
current reading, low limit and high limit. Besides monitoring
your critical equipment and processes, the system monitors itself,
creating additional alarms that allow for voice telephone calls
to be made and all standard alarming functions to occur.
Hydrogen
generator line produces lab gas with water
The Chrysalis II Standard Economy Purified Gas (SEPG) line of hydrogen
generators employs membrane technology for electrolytic production
of pure hydrogen gas.
It is suggested by the manufacturer, Matheson Tri-Gas, for operation
with gas chromatography analyzers, as fuel gas for flame tools,
or a source of pure hydrogen in plasma chambers and other isolated
environments. The electrolytic membrane technology is clean, requires
less maintenance than other technologies, and requires no caustic
solutions for operation. Only deionized water is required for the
production of reliable, continuous output of >99.999% pure hydrogen.
A user-friendly digital display provides system operating status
and diagnostic capabilities. An optional remote-control feature
is available, and an optional “cascading flow” feature allows labs
to connect up to 32 units in parallel operation to deliver a large
flow of hydrogen. Single-unit outputs range from 100 to 500 ccm.
Purification
system offers customized water solution The Millipore
Milli-Q Advantage water purification is designed to adapt to the
requirements of users in the pharmaceutical, biotech, cosmetic,
clinical, environmental, food and beverage, and government lab
sectors. The standard unit converts pure water to ultrapure water,
with several point-of-use polishers available to match the required
application. The production units can be placed on a bench, under
a bench, or on the wall. The customizable aspects of the system
avoid the need for multiple separate production units, each tailored
to an individual need.
The movable Q-POD unit provides the final purification step closest
to the dispensing point; up to three Q-POD dispensers can be used
per systems at different locations within 10 ft of the production
unit. Flow rates up to 2 L/min are available.
Touchscreens
add to ease of use for vivarium monitoring system
Touchscreen panels outside of the animal room provide direction
for vivarium staff with the ViewPort Vivarium system, from Edstrom
Industries. The touchscreens are surface-mounted or flush-mounted
into the wall. Once logged in, the touchscreen displays the tasks
that need to be completed inside the room, allows staff to enter
observations about the room or animals, and offers messaging capabilities.
As soon as information is entered at the touchscreen it is accessible
to authorized users.
The ViewPort Vivarium web-based software is displayed on the touchscreen,
desktop PCs, and customer-supplied tablet PCs. ViewPort Vivarium
is designed for GLP environments and meets 21 CFR Part 11 electronic
records compliance.
ViewPort Vivarium provides on-the-spot, real-time access to key
vivarium data, which streamlines workflow and reduces paperwork.
The core functionality includes task management, observation management,
messaging functions, and reporting.

Monitors verify correct
fume hood operation
The AirGard line of labortory fume hood monitors, by Alnor, protects lab users by warning them if containment has been compromised. The ANSI Z9.5-2003, SEFA 1.2-2002, and NFPA 45-2000 standards require the use of such monitors. AirGard monitors are available in a broad range of models, from simple go/no go versions to a full-featured model with a digital display of the actual measured velocity. The units constantly measure average face velocity and alert workers of potentially unsafe flow levels with audible and visual alarms.

Point-of-use system produces Type 1 water from tap feed
The EASYpure RoDi water purification system, from Barnstead International, uses tap water to produce ultrapure water exceeding ASTM Type 1 standards. This fully contained point-of-use unit produces 800 mL/min on demand. Purification technologies include a high-flow reverse osmosis membrane, dual-wavelength quartz UV lamp, and 0.2 micron hollow-fiber absolute final filter. Water recirculates between the 6.5 L internal reservoir, cartridge, and UV lamp to ensure purity for demanding applications.
A monitor provides a digital reading of the purity of water exiting the system, and alerts users to vital information, including the need for a cartridge change. A quiet pump has integral low-water protection to prevent damage to the unit if there is not sufficient feedwater in the tank.
