The award recipients were chosen among the more than 1,200 member firms of the NJTC. Matheson, a sponsor of Laboratory Design newsletter, provides specialty and semiconductor gases, as well as gas handling equipment and other related product lines.
BSA LifeStructures, Chicago, has hired David R. Hill, AIA, as a project manager in the architecture group. BSA operates offices in Chicago and Indianapolis and designs facilities for healthcare, education, research, and technology.
Tsoi/Kobus Associates, Cambridge, Mass., has received a Gold Brick in Architecture Award from the Brick Industry Assn. for the Lasry Center for Bioscience at Clark Univ., Worcester, Mass. The 41,000-ft2 teaching and research lab was dedicated in April 2005. Labs were well-represented in the competition, with the Toronto firm Diamond + Schmitt Architects Inc. taking a Bronze Brick for the 40,000-ft2 Univ. of Ontario Institute of Technology engineering facility, Oshawa.
Exposure Control Technologies Inc., Cary, N.C., an engineering consulting and commissioning firm, has added a service called Rapid Energy & Lab Safety Assessment, designed to give owners a cost-effective tool for estimating the potential of energy reduction strategies for existing facilities. The objective is helping clients prioritize possible tactics and implement the most promising opportunities first. The effort is headed by ECT founder Thomas C. Smith.
Airgas, Radnor, Pa., has acquired the assets and operations of Southern Welding Supply Inc., based in northern Alabama, and Alpena Supply Co., headquartered in Alpena, Mich. Airgas, a specialty gas supplier, acquired 10 firms during FY2007, with acquired sales topping $140 million.
