Packaged
system simplifies pure water system design
The Centra purification and distribution system, from USFilter,
is a packaged system incorporating a reservoir, reverse osmosis
system, ultraviolet unit, tubing, and pump in a single cabinet.
The packaging avoids the need for designers to size each component
and purchase all items individually. Centra provides a loop flow
rate of up to 18 L/min, a recirculation pump, and a 350-L storage
tank. An optional deionization system may be positioned outside
the cabinet but within the loop. Piping is quick-connect to allow
flexibility in placement. Features include audiovisual alarm warnings,
passkey access to the control panel, optional remote monitoring,
and a manually initiated disinfection routine. Validation support
documentation ensures compliance with applicable standards. Contact: USFilter Technical Support. 800-875-7873,

Vendor
offers design handbook TSI Inc., vendor of controls and monitors for critical
environments, announces the availability of a new “Laboratory
Design Handbook.” This free, 36-page primer covers basic
goals of all laboratory design: safety, energy efficiency, and
comfort. The guide offers tips for complying with established
regulations, guidelines, and standards; conditioning, supplying,
and exhausting laboratory air in the most energy-efficient manner;
and maximizing worker safety and productivity through lab layout,
equipment, and temperature and ventilation controls.
The handbook discusses basic concepts in laboratory ventilation
and controls; fume hood testing and controls; and individual components
(dampers, flow stations, and venturi valves). An appendix comparing
three VAV system control sequences is a handy reference guide.

Casework
and utility system designed for peak adaptability The E-Lab product line, by Case Systems, is designed
to provide unequalled versatility for virtually all laboratory
applications by combining modular and fixed commercial-grade laminate
casework with coordinating hardware, trim, countertops, fixtures,
and a wide variety of complementary accessories.
Cabinet options include floor-mounted, suspended, mobile, and
overhead cabinets as well as many specialized storage solutions
such as high-density storage, hazardous chemical storage, and
hands-free waste disposal cabinets. A unique flexible hardware
system provides rigid support for vertical integration without
limiting adjustability. The vertical supports are slotted to allow
infinite height adjustment of overhead cabinets, electrical raceway,
services, and reagent shelves.
E-Lab’s service wing provides all services from overhead,
leaving the work surface completely free. When used with mobile
instrument carts and tables, instruments can be easily installed
and connected to the service supply as needed and simply moved
out of the way when finished. Contact: Case Systems. 939-496-0773; www.casesystems.com.
Vendor
adds new pressurization control system to product line Phoenix Controls Corp. is adding a new room pressurization
control solution to its product portfolio. In conjunction with
the vendor’s pressure-independent Accel II venturi valves,
the Traccel Room Controller suits VAV temperature control applications
where stable directional airflow into or out of the space is critical.
In these flow-tracking applications, the controller maintains
an offset between the volume of air supplied into and exhausted
from a space to a maintain stable room pressurization and directional
airflow. In addition, the product performs occupancy and HVAC
emergency mode control either locally or through network commands
from building automation system (BAS) controllers across the open
LonTalk network, or across the Phoenix Controls Celeris network.
Unique 48-point flow characterization curves for the supply and
exhaust valves serving the room are factory downloaded to the
Traccel controller’s on-board microprocessor. The controller
uses the flow data to accurately control flow-tracking between
the two valves. A rise in temperature above the room setpoint
causes the supply valve to open and airflow into the room to increase.
The controller maintains directional airflow by modulating the
exhaust valve based on the known position of the supply valve
and applying a design flow offset between the two. The pressure-independent
venturi valves eliminate the need for flow sensors associated
with conventional VAV terminal boxes. Contact: Phoenix Controls Corp. 978-795-1285;

Information
system automates workflows, reduces paper pileups ViewPort Vivarium, from Edstrom Industries, is designed
to provide clients with the who, what, where, when, and why about
their vivariums, improving efficiency and saving time. Not just
a software-only solution, the dual interface system is conveniently
accessible via PCs and touch screens placed throughout the facility.
The task management function shows what activities need to be
done and allows staff to check them off upon completion. Productivity
is visible and accountable. Animal health observations can be
recorded to a secure database. Critical observations are forwarded
via e-mail to those who need to know. Messaging, critical condition
notification, and audit trail documentation improve compliance
and communication. The system is 21 CFR Part 11 electronic records
compliant.
ViewPort’s on-the-spot, real-time access to information
helps clients manage people and processes to deliver on your facility’s
promises, according to the manufacturer. Contact: Edstrom Industries. 262-534-5181, www.edstrom.com.
Bulk
powder enclosures protect users during transfer The new XPert bulk powder enclosures, from Labconco Corp.,
provide user protection from hazardous airborne particulates and
fumes generated during powder transfer operations. Features include
an ergonomic airfoil with aerodynamic Clean-Sweep airflow openings
that create a protective barrier; upper dilution air supply with
bypass air that bathes the back of the sash with clean air; an
upper contaminant sash foil that lowers concentrations near the
user’s breathing zone; and a zoned perforated rear baffle
that directs inflow air in non-turbulent laminar streams. The
enclosures include a base stand and transfer caddy. A push button
operates an electric hydraulic lift mechanism to raise the container
to the proper ergonomic height. Units are available in 5-, 6-,
and 8-ft widths. Enclosures may be ducted to the outside via a
filtered house exhaust system, or connected to a portable filtered
exhaust unit. Contact: Labconco Corp. 800-821-5525; www.labconco.com.
